ABE has been certified since inception by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and is authorized to test Safe Drinking Water Act regulated samples. Certified Laboratory test results impact many areas of our daily lives; including safe drinking water, food safety, health care, and environmental monitoring. Regulators and customers rely on the competence of these certified laboratories to deliver the results; allowing for important decisions to be made and for public confidence in those test results.
To be a certified laboratory, many technical factors for producing quality data are examined, including:
This on-site assessment process assures that the laboratory is capable of producing accurate, traceable and reproducible data. The process is repeated at regular intervals to ensure the laboratory maintains their capabilities.
ABE Laboratories was founded in the 1970’s, testing for coliform bacteria. In 1977, the business approached Brad Niper about developing the testing methods for lead in drinking water. At the time, Brad was running the atomic absorption process at Hoffman-La Roche (known today as Roche). Brad decided to join ABE as an equal partner and, in the early 1980’s, took over full ownership of the company.
Brad, his wife Elsie, and Meredith Niper have invested countless hours in developing the business and the success of their efforts is illustrated by the longevity of the company. They believed that their customers deserved a trustworthy and prompt test result. That culture remains the core of the business and will remain into the future.
